While it likely doesn't harm Apple as they are an ecosystem company, Piracy harms software companies in a very real way. If you are generating revenue with it, pay for it. If you can afford software and are using it, pay for it. That said, if a copy licensed to you made it out to a Piracy site, Apple can certainly tell where that application came from and who the original purchaser was. If Apple checks the entitlements of an Application when it is launched, they don't document it internally or externally. I haven't needed to deep dive any issues since then, so I may be out of date. Some of that may have changed since 10.14. So each new computer user gets their own new preferences in the application and their own new default library. Historically, Additional content (Like audio units plugins) are installed in a location that is accessible to all user accounts on a machine while preferences are located in the User Specific Library. If the preferences are not in place, it creates them and runs the setup scripts to install the additional content and generate a default library. The AppStore doesn't show a prepaid download option, I can only buy the apps one more time and then install. Apple sent me an encrypted PDF with the serials but I can't figure out how to actually download the apps. ![]() If those files are in place, it loads the preferences and attempts to load the previously opened Library(ies). Downloading pro apps purchased in a bundle Hi everyone I purchased the Pro Apps bundle for students. When you run the Application, it checks if it has preference files in place as well as any additional content. The Application package contains metadata that associates it to your Apple ID and the initial machine that downloaded it, but there is no additional entitlement check on Pro Apps (or any apps made by Apple) Third party applications can institute additional entitlement checks if they want to. ![]() That file, once decompressed locally will run on any Mac that meets the requirements of the application (operating system version, hardware requirements etc). You can protect them by archiving them (Right Click, Compress will create a zip file in the same file path). They don't like having their internal permissions screwed with (which dropbox can do). Applications on Mac are actually Package files.
